Wispr Back is a macOS app that reads selected text aloud as a spoken summary. It is operated by Bishal Banerjee (“we”, “us”). This page explains what data the app and this website handle, and why. The short version: your content passes through our servers only to generate your audio, your summaries and recordings live on your Mac, and we never sell data.
What we collect
- Account information. When you sign in (via Google), our authentication provider Clerk gives us your name, email address, and avatar. We use it to identify your subscription and team membership.
- The text you select. When you trigger a summary, the selected text (or screenshot) is sent over TLS to our servers and relayed to an AI model provider to generate the summary and speech. It is processed transiently to serve your request; we do not build a store of your content on our servers. The resulting summaries, history, and audio recordings are stored locally on your Mac and can be cleared from the app at any time.
- Usage metadata. We record per-request metering (timestamps, model used, token counts, processing cost) to enforce fair use and understand service costs. This metadata does not include the content of your text or audio.
- Payments. Purchases are processed by Paddle, our merchant of record. We never see or store your card details.
- Analytics. If enabled, the app records product events (e.g. that a summary ran, its duration and voice — never its content) to improve the product. You can opt out in the app’s settings.
Who processes data on our behalf
We use a small set of subprocessors: Clerk (authentication), Convex (backend infrastructure), OpenRouter and its underlying model providers (summary and speech generation), Paddle (payments), and Vercel (this website). Each receives only what it needs to perform its function.
Retention
Account records last for the life of your account. Usage metadata is kept for accounting purposes. Your content is not retained server-side beyond serving the request; local history on your Mac is yours and deletable in-app (Home → Clear).
Your rights
You can request access to, or deletion of, the data associated with your account at any time by emailing support@composer1.com. Deleting your account removes your account record and entitlements.
Security
All transport is encrypted (TLS). API credentials for model providers are held server-side and are never distributed inside the app.
Children
Wispr Back is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
We will update this page when practices change and adjust the date above. Material changes will be announced in the app or by email.
